Disturbing video captures a chaotic scene where an out-of-control driver dragged two cyclists down a bustling Harlem street, resulting in one death and four injuries on Thursday evening.
According to police reports and other sources, the unidentified 49-year-old driver was speeding in a red Hyundai Tucson around 8:05 p.m., pulling at least two victims—and possibly a bicycle—underneath the vehicle.
The driver reportedly “kept pressing the gas pedal,” causing pedestrians near West 125th Street and Frederick Douglass Boulevard to scramble for safety, as shown in both the footage and accounts from witnesses.
A witness, who went by the initials CB, recounted, “I saw two men lying there, face down and unable to move. They were the ones hit by the bike and dragged by the car.”
CB continued, “He hit another car and struck people. One person went flying, while the other two were pulled until the car slammed into a police vehicle. It was only then that his car swerved and hit a truck, which finally brought it to a stop.”
Adding a personal note, CB mentioned, “We came from Minnesota for a funeral. And just last night, we were nearly taken out.”
The two cyclists, aged 28 and 33, were reportedly left on the ground in a bus lane, as described by witnesses and visual evidence shared in the post.
A nearby worker observed, “I spotted a black motorcycle. The man was moving a bit, but his head was bleeding heavily; the Spanish man seemed to be unconscious.”
Witnesses noted that the frightened pedestrians scrambled away from the road as the chaos unfolded.
The driver struck the cyclists, collided with a parked NYPD cruiser, and then slammed into a semi-truck.
Both injured cyclists were taken to the hospital in critical condition, but sadly, the 28-year-old was later pronounced dead, according to authorities.
While the driver was arrested at the scene, there were no reported injuries on his part, and as of now, no charges have been filed.
