Possum Takes Refuge in Australian Airport Gift Shop

A live brushtail possum was found nestled among stuffed animals in a gift shop at Hobart Airport in Australia. Shoppers made the discovery this week, leading to an amusing interaction that airport staff members are now sharing with delight.

Liam Bloomfield, the retail manager at Hobart Airport, recounted how it all started. “A passenger alerted one of our staff, and honestly, she could hardly believe her ears,” he explained. The staff member quickly notified airport management about the unexpected visitor.

Amazingly, airport personnel managed to safely remove the possum from the store. When asked why it had chosen such an unusual hiding spot, Bloomfield joked, “I imagine it saw a stuffed animal for sale and thought it would fit in. It clearly wanted to find a cozy home!”

In a post on their Facebook page, the airport humorously queried, “Can you spot a scammer?” alongside a photo of the possum cuddled up with a stuffed toy. They elaborated, saying, “This cheeky little lost possum cleverly found a hiding place inside a stuffed animal at our shop. Fortunately, it was safely relocated outside the terminal.” It’s a playful way to highlight a memorable event at the airport.

Bloomfield also mentioned that the incident has endeared the possum to the airport staff. He even expressed his intent to honor the creature. “I’m thinking of creating a small shrine for the possum. We’ll have a cute photo displayed, and maybe even a nice mailbox to remember it,” he remarked, adding a personal touch to the experience. It seems this little creature has made quite an impression, sparking smiles and camaraderie at the airport.
