DJ Chark Announces Retirement from NFL

Former Pro Bowl wide receiver DJ Chark has decided to retire from the NFL, marking the conclusion of his seven-year career.

At 29, Chark hasn’t played in the league since 2024. His journey began with the Jaguars, the team that drafted him, where he spent four years. He then moved on to play for the Lions, Panthers, and Chargers over the last three seasons.

In an Instagram post on Friday, Chark shared, “After much consideration, I have decided to bid a proper farewell as I enter retirement. My journey began when I signed up for soccer at the age of 7, without knowing it would shape my life significantly. I simply loved the sport, and my parents were always there supporting me. Later, it was my wife, children, family, and thousands of fans that encouraged me!”

He reflected on the “challenges I have faced and overcome, and the rewards I have received.” Chark noted, “I have learned to appreciate every experience and take nothing for granted. As I enter this new chapter, I aim to empower young people through philanthropy and be a positive influence in my community.”

Chark entered the NFL as a second-round pick in the 2018 Draft after playing at LSU, known mainly for his speed and ability to stretch the field. He quickly became one of the Jaguars’ primary offensive assets.

His standout season was in 2019, with 73 receptions, 1,008 yards, and eight touchdowns, leading to his Pro Bowl selection. That year solidified his position as a starter in Jacksonville, where he stayed until the end of 2021.

While he never hit the 1,000-yard mark again, Chark still had productive performances as his career continued.

Chark concluded, “The possibilities ahead are endless, and that excites me. I’m grateful to my teammates, fans, and every organization I’ve had the honor of playing for. All glory goes to God. I am forever grateful.”
