Justin Timberlake Struggles During Sobriety Test in Hamptons Traffic Stop
Recently released police footage shows Justin Timberlake having difficulty during a field sobriety test following a June 2024 traffic stop in the Hamptons. The singer was taken into custody on allegations of drunk driving.
Timberlake was arrested after Sag Harbor police claimed he failed to stop at a stop sign, swerved out of his lane, and exited his BMW with a noticeable smell of alcohol. After the stop, when asked why he was in town, he stated, “I’m on a world tour.”
The roughly eight-hour video captured moments like Timberlake asserting, “World tour. I’m Justin Timberlake.” To which the officer responded, in a slightly incredulous tone, “Are you Justin Timberlake? Do you have a license?”
During the test, Timberlake struggled to adhere to the officers’ directions, which included balancing on one leg and walking heel-to-toe. He apologized to the officers, admitting, “My heart is pounding” and remarked that he was feeling “a little nervous.” In the patrol car, he questioned, “Why are you arresting me?”
Earlier this month, Timberlake filed a lawsuit against Sag Harbor Village and its police department to stop the release of the body camera footage. His legal team argued that the footage, expected to be made public under a Freedom of Information Act request, contains personal information irrelevant to public safety, including private details that should remain confidential.
However, village attorneys later decided to release the video, contending that it does not violate privacy laws as defined by state regulations.
As part of a plea deal, Timberlake ultimately pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of driving while impaired. He received community service and issued a public apology following the incident.
