Mayor Prohibits Chappell Roan From Performing in Rio Following Reported Incident Involving Soccer Player Jorginho’s Family

Mayor Bans Chappell Roan from Performing in Rio

Eduardo Cavaliere, the mayor of Rio de Janeiro, has announced that singer Chappell Roan is banned from performing in the city following an incident involving a fan.

The decision comes after a security guard allegedly harassed a fan at a hotel in São Paulo. This fan, Ada Law, is the daughter of actor Jude Law and Cat Cavelli, and the stepdaughter of soccer player Jorginho Frello. Jorginho took to Instagram to express his concerns about what he described as a “very upsetting situation” involving Roan, while the singer herself denied any involvement in the incident.

“As long as I’m in charge of our city, this young lady @ChappellRoan will never perform at Todo Mundo No Rio,” Cavaliere said in a statement on X, translated from Portuguese.

He added, “I doubt that Shakira would do that! By the way, @FrelloJorginho, your little one is already the guest of honor from the organization in May!”

Jorginho explained that Ada merely walked past Roan’s table while acknowledging her and then returned to sit with her mother without saying anything or asking for anything. He claimed the security guard approached Ada, accusing her of harassment.

Cat Cavelli addressed the situation on her Instagram, insisting that the security guard in question wasn’t affiliated with the hotel but was instead part of her team, meant to provide protection for artists.

“I think you have a responsibility when you are a celebrity to make sure, I guess, that the people that work for you and that act on your behalf are acting on your behalf,” she remarked.

In a separate social media post, Roan stated that the security guard was not actually protecting her. “I didn’t even see a woman and a child. No one came up to me. No one bothered me,” she said.

Roan also expressed that she doesn’t hold any ill will toward fans, saying, “I do not hate people who are fans of my music. I do not hate children. Like, that is crazy.” She extended her apologies directly to Ada and her family, saying she was saddened by the misunderstanding and that they didn’t deserve to feel uncomfortable.
