Illegal Immigrant Charged with Murder in Chicago
An illegal immigrant, released into the United States by the Biden administration, has been charged with the murder of 18-year-old Sheridan Gorman, a freshman at Royal University in Chicago, Illinois.
Last week, 25-year-old Jose Medina Medina, originally from Venezuela, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, three counts of felony aggravated assault, and unlawful possession of a firearm, according to Chicago police.
Police reported that around 1 a.m. on March 19, Gorman was walking with friends near Toby Prinz Beach in the Rogers Park area when Medina approached the group while masked and opened fire.
Gorman suffered a fatal head injury and was pronounced dead at the scene.
In a statement, Gorman’s family expressed their profound loss: “Once again we are faced with an unbearable truth: Our daughter’s life has been taken and our family will never be the same.”
The family described Sheridan as the heart of their family, noting her unique ability to bring people together and make them feel loved and accepted, adding that her life was filled with purpose and kindness.
On Sunday, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials identified Medina as an illegal alien who had been apprehended at the southern border on May 9, 2023. Due to past policies implemented by former President Biden, he was allowed to enter the U.S. and released from Border Patrol custody.
A month later, he was arrested in Chicago for shoplifting, yet was released from police custody without ICE being notified, as per the strict policies in place in Chicago and Illinois.
Homeland Security Secretary Lauren Biss commented on the situation, stating, “Sheridan Gorman was failed by open border policies and sanctuary politicians who released this illegal alien twice before this heinous murder.” She urged Governor J.B. Pritzker and local politicians to reconsider their stance on returning criminal illegal immigrants to communities.
Medina-Medina is currently in police custody and has a court appearance scheduled for Monday.
