A major recall has been issued for some popular Trader Joe’s products due to potential contamination with foreign objects.
Migen Foods North America, Inc. is recalling nearly 10 million pounds of Trader Joe’s vegetable fried rice after glass shards were discovered in one package of the meal. This was reported following FDA recommendations.
The glass fragments measured between 1 to 3 cm in length and 2 to 4 mm in width.
The recall involves products with best buy dates ranging from February 28, 2026, to November 19, 2026, sold across 43 states. Hawaii, Maine, New Mexico, South Dakota, Vermont, West Virginia, and Iowa are the only states not included in the recall.
This recall is an extension of an earlier announcement made on February 19, which was then expanded on March 3, adhering to FDA guidelines.
In addition to the vegetable fried rice, other affected items include Trader Joe’s chicken shumai and chicken fried rice, the latter containing rice, vegetables, eggs, and seasoned dark meat chicken.
Investigations suggested that the contamination might originate from vegetable-based ingredients, particularly carrots.
In total, about 37 million pounds of various ready-to-eat products have been recalled, impacting 16 brands, with well-known names like Kroger and Taipei also affected.
Health officials caution that contaminated products could still be found in customers’ freezers.
A comprehensive list of the recalled items is available.
Fortunately, there have been no reported injuries related to the contamination, according to the FDA, which advises anyone with concerns to consult their health care provider.
Customers who purchased the affected products are advised to discard them or return them to the store.
