Professional Cornhole Player Charged in Deadly Shooting

A 27-year-old professional cornhole player, who is also an amputee, has been charged in the fatal shooting of an acquaintance during a dispute. The incident reportedly occurred after he posted a video online of himself using a handgun.

Dayton James Weber was driving three friends in his Tesla SUV late Sunday night in Maryland when an intense argument erupted with the front passenger. It escalated, leading to Weber allegedly shooting Bradrick Michael Wells, who had a shotgun in his possession.

After the shooting, the two passengers in the backseat quickly exited the car in panic. Weber then asked them for help moving Wells from the vehicle. When they refused, he left them on the roadside in Charlotte Hall, Maryland, with Wells’ body still inside.

About two hours later, law enforcement received a report of a body found in a garden on Newport Church Road. Officers arrived to find Wells, who was pronounced dead on the scene.

Weber’s Tesla was tracked to Charlottesville, Virginia, over 100 miles away. Authorities located him at a nearby hospital, seeking treatment for a medical issue.

The Albemarle County Sheriff’s Office took Weber into custody Monday after he left the hospital. He is facing charges as a fugitive and will be extradited to Maryland, where he will deal with additional charges of first- and second-degree murder.

Despite his disability, Weber has carved out a career for himself in the American Cornhole League. He lost parts of his arm and leg to a bacterial infection when he was just a baby.

Not one to let his condition limit him, Weber engaged in wrestling during middle school. It’s said he learned to walk by moving around on the stumps of his legs. Reflecting on his childhood aspirations, he once mentioned wanting to become a priest or a Secret Service agent.

As an adult, Weber’s interests shifted away from religion but remained tied to law enforcement, which led him to learn about firearms. In a recent YouTube video, he can be seen loading and firing a 9mm handgun, with shotgun shells scattered across the ground around him.
