Kermit Gosnell, Notorious Philadelphia Abortionist, Dies in Prison

Kermit Gosnell, a Philadelphia abortionist known for his shocking practices, passed away in prison this month while serving multiple life sentences. He died on March 1 at the age of 85, as reported by the Associated Press. Gosnell had been admitted to SCI Smithfield and later taken to a hospital, where he died just before midnight. The exact cause of his death hasn’t been revealed.

Gosnell was infamous for the conditions at his “House of Horrors” abortion clinic and faced numerous convictions, totaling 237 crimes. These included first-degree murder for the killing of three infants and manslaughter following the overdose death of a woman at his clinic.

During the trial, prosecutors shared that Gosnell routinely performed illegal abortions on fetuses past 24 weeks of pregnancy, sometimes delivering them alive before severing their spinal cords. Investigators documented horrific conditions within his clinic, including contaminated medical equipment, bloodstained furniture, and bags filled with aborted fetal remains. He also admitted to unlawfully trafficking prescription drugs through his practice.

A report indicated that state officials had not conducted regular inspections of abortion clinics for 15 years prior to the raid on Gosnell’s facility. The scandal led to the firing of two top health officials in Pennsylvania and prompted the state to implement stricter regulations for clinics.

Gosnell received multiple life sentences rather than the death penalty for his actions. Carol Tobias, chair of the National Right to Life, reflected on his death, highlighting ongoing issues in the country surrounding abortion practices. “Abortion, regardless of how it is performed, intentionally and brutally takes the life of at least one innocent human being,” he stated. Tobias emphasized that every day, lives, including those of late-term fetuses, are lost through abortion procedures.

Other pro-life leaders encouraged the community to pray for Gosnell to reflect on his actions before his death. Lyla Rose, founder of Live Action, expressed thoughts about Gosnell’s legacy and the lives affected by his practices, stating, “He was an abortionist and convicted murderer who was responsible for ending the lives of thousands of unborn children.” She expressed a hope for his repentance before his passing.

Students for Life of America also shared similar sentiments, emphasizing their prayers for Gosnell’s potential repentance in his final moments.
