Neighbor’s Dog Wakes Up Over Nancy Guthrie’s Disappearance
The neighbor of Nancy Guthrie reported that his dog unexpectedly woke him up on two notable nights tied to the 84-year-old’s disappearance from her Arizona residence. He mentioned that this kind of behavior is quite unusual for his pet.
Jeff Ramey lives a few doors down from Guthrie’s home in the Catalina Foothills. He recounted on a recent episode of “Crime Stories with Nancy Grace” that his dog jolted him awake around 1 a.m. on February 1, coinciding with the time authorities typically believe Guthrie went missing. This incident aligns with remarks made by Savannah Guthrie, who is also linked to the case.
“Maybe it’s just a coincidence, or perhaps it means nothing,” Ramey said, acknowledging that his dog’s odd late-night antics—particularly for a pet that usually sleeps soundly—are just not normal.
“The dogs were awake, so I took them out. I didn’t notice anything unusual, but animals, especially dogs, can pick up on things. I’m not sure if there’s a link here or not, but I hope it proves useful in some way, whether it aids the timeline or not,” he added.
He also reviewed security footage from that night, where he noticed one dog appearing to gaze toward something in the distance before moving along.
Ramey mentioned another occasion on January 11 when he was once again roused by his dogs. Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos had recently highlighted this date as significant.
Authorities indicated they were looking into a potential incident at Guthrie’s home on January 11, suggesting they believe something may have transpired two weeks before the kidnapping occurred, though they haven’t disclosed specific evidence from that night.
“It’s not something you see often. We looked back to see if any connections existed with other dates,” Ramey said, explaining that police had requested neighbors to scan their surveillance footage for anything unusual.
“Nothing quite like that has happened since,” Ramey added, expressing concern over whether their pets had sensed something amiss. “We just hope any insights we’ve shared could be of help.”
These revelations from Sheriff Nanos surfaced just days after Guthrie’s children made a public appeal for any information regarding their mother’s disappearance, as the search entered its seventh week.
Guthrie is believed to have vanished from her Tucson home in the early hours of February 1.
She was reported missing after not showing up at a church gathering, and police have indicated that security footage from her doorbell camera captured a masked individual near her front door that night.
As of now, no suspect has been identified over 50 days into the investigation.
