Summer Lee from the Squad advocates for the impeachment of Attorney General Pam Bondi

Rep. Summer Lee (D-Pennsylvania) reiterated her call for Attorney General Pam Bondi to resign on Tuesday as she moves forward with impeachment actions connected to Bondi’s management of the Jeffrey Epstein files.

In a conversation with CT Media Network, Lee was asked what she would say to Bondi if given the chance. “I hope she resigns, but I don’t expect her to,” she said. “Have some respect for this country. Have some dignity for yourself.” She characterized Bondi’s situation as “one of the most egregious” cases among several embarrassing appointments made by President Trump.

“This isn’t a nation divided into Democrats and Republicans. It shouldn’t be about the wealthy few versus everyone else,” Lee emphasized. She expressed her belief that the government should be accountable to its citizens, regardless of titles, and lamented what she sees as a government built for a select group instead of the broader public.

The discussion followed Lee’s introduction of articles of impeachment against Bondi on March 17. The impeachment article details various alleged infractions, particularly surrounding her management of Epstein-related records. According to the press release, allegations include ignoring a Congressional subpoena for the unredacted Epstein file, violating the Epstein File Transparency Act, misusing investigative authority, defying a federal court order, and lying during Congressional testimony.

Lee remarked that the Attorney General holds a critical role in ensuring the law is enforced impartially. She accused Bondi of breaking laws to shield pedophiles while targeting political opponents of President Trump. “This is about accountability, transparency, and justice,” she stated.

The resolution claims that the Justice Department has been politicized, pointing to actions like the dismissal of career staff, investigations into political adversaries, and the neglect of legal matters involving Trump and his allies. This initiative has garnered support from the legal advocacy group Free Speech For People; its legal director remarked that an Attorney General who disregards Congress and federal law shouldn’t remain in office.

Among the co-sponsors of the resolution are Rep. Yasamin Ansari, Rep. Valerie Foushi, Rep. Dave Min, Rep. Rashida Tlaib, and Rep. Maxine Dexter.

Lee’s advocacy comes on the heels of a subpoena issued by the House Oversight Committee, headed by James Comer, requiring Bondi to testify on April 14 about her handling of Epstein-related documents. The committee is exploring “potential mismanagement of the federal investigation” into Epstein and noted that Bondi “may have engaged in misconduct.” They seek to gather more insights into the matter.

Congressman Robert Garcia recently mentioned that if Democrats regain control of the House, pursuing impeachment against Bondi “must be on the table” if she fails to comply with Congressional requests for the Epstein materials. He indicated that Bondi could be held in contempt and stressed the importance of her appearing for a deposition, suggesting that continued violations could lead to further actions against her.

Lee’s initiatives align with a broader trend of impeachment efforts aimed at Trump administration officials. Other attempts have involved calling for the impeachment of Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, Congresswoman Haley Stevens, and Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr. There are ongoing discussions regarding impeachment against Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem as well.
