Investigation into Nancy Guthrie’s Disappearance
Savannah Guthrie spoke about her mother’s ongoing disappearance during an interview that aired on Thursday, noting that the situation feels increasingly urgent for Nancy Guthrie.
She recounted her experiences from the day her mother vanished, emphasizing her panic upon receiving a call from her sister. “She said she was gone,” Savannah recalled while speaking with “Today” co-host Hoda Kotb. “It was chaotic. We thought maybe she had a medical emergency because the back door was wide open. Nothing added up.”
Nancy Guthrie has been missing since February 1. Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos indicated it seems she was taken against her will. Savannah mentioned that her husband dropped her off at home around 10 PM the night before her disappearance. Early the next morning, a masked man was reportedly seen at her door.
Savannah noted that her mother’s cell phone and wallet were left inside the house, and she described when she arrived home in Tucson, Arizona, to join her brother Annie and her husband, Tommy.
During the interview, Savannah stated that they made it clear to the authorities that this situation was unusual. “This isn’t a case where someone wanders off. Mom suffered from significant back pain. She’d only walk to the mailbox on nice days. She didn’t roam around.”
“The back door was flung open, there was blood on the porch, and the Ring camera had been tampered with. We just knew something was off,” she elaborated.
This interview marked Savannah’s first public comments since her mother went missing.
In a preview released on Wednesday, she expressed the emotional toll on her family. “We are in agony,” she said plainly.
She described the entire situation as “unbearable,” adding, “I wake up thinking about what she might be experiencing, imagining her fear. It’s haunting, but those thoughts don’t leave. We really need her back home.”
Since her mother’s disappearance, Savannah had stayed away from the show but made a brief return to the Rockefeller Center studio on March 5 to connect with her colleagues.
