Tennessee Man Accused of Manslaughter After Fatal Car Chase

A man in Tennessee is facing serious charges after allegedly stealing a pickup truck and leading police on a chase that ended tragically with a fatal crash involving a 23-year-old woman. Ray Eugene Padgett, 52, has been charged with manslaughter and reckless vehicular homicide in connection with the death of Oluwarayomi Fadero.

According to the Nashville Metropolitan Police Department, Padgett is also facing charges for reckless endangerment, attempted murder, and driving with a revoked license. Authorities noted that he was on parole and had accumulated at least 20 prior convictions across five counties in Tennessee.

It’s reported that Padgett stole a pickup truck from a parking lot on March 20. The truck’s owner attempted to follow him, eventually locating the vehicle in an alley off St. Louis Street. Padgett reportedly reversed the truck into the owner’s car and fled the scene.

Padgett continued driving the stolen truck, and police began tracking him from the air. The chase escalated when he crashed into an unmarked police car before leading officers on a roughly five-minute pursuit. The chase ended approximately 2:30 PM when Padgett collided with Fadero’s vehicle, pushing it into a ditch, where she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Fadero had been just weeks away from completing her nursing degree at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and was remembered as a vibrant and caring student. Her college described her as a “valued member” of the upcoming class, highlighting her kindness and passion for helping others.

According to a GoFundMe campaign set up in her memory, Fadero was turning into her street when the crash occurred, and her dog, Nala, was with her at the time. Remarkably, Nala survived the incident and has since been reunited with Fadero’s loved ones.

The loss of Oluwarayomi Fadero has deeply affected those who knew her, leaving behind a significant void in their lives.
