Tom Brady Explores Potential Return Amid Ownership of Raiders
Even with his role as a minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders, Tom Brady has expressed interest in a possible return to the football field. The 48-year-old quarterback mentioned that the NFL isn’t particularly supportive of the idea of him coming out of retirement while also owning a team.
“We asked them about it, and they weren’t exactly thrilled with the concept,” Brady shared, mentioning it during a conversation with CNBC. “We explored various options, and I retired quite happily. Just to be clear.”
Brady recently showcased his skills at the Fanatics Flag Football Classic, throwing for 85 yards and two touchdowns during two games. Although he enjoyed being back on the field, he also noted that participating in this event reinforced his decision to retire. “Playing in the flag game was a blast. I really liked not having to worry about getting hit,” he reflected. “Throwing passes to great players is always fun, but it also made me realize that I’ll be perfectly content in retirement.”
The NFL seems to agree with Brady’s decision to step back, as having a former superstar return would create complications for the league. An NFL spokesperson clarified to CNBC that if he were to play again, he would need to sell his stake in the Raiders, following a policy from 2023 that prevents players and team personnel from owning shares in their franchise.
Additionally, there could be salary cap implications that would need addressing if a player-turned-owner like Brady decided to return to the field. Brady bought a 5% ownership stake in the Raiders in 2024.
