Mother of Slain Intern Urges Action

The mother of a murdered Congressional intern in Washington, D.C., is encouraging his family to “fight back” following a heartfelt eulogy for Sheridan Gorman, a college student who was tragically killed.

Gorman, just 18 and a student at Loyola University Chicago, was shot near campus on March 19 in the Rogers Park area. Reports from the Department of Homeland Security reveal that the alleged murderer, Jose Medina-Medina, 25, entered the U.S. illegally on May 9, 2023. He was arrested but later released under the Biden administration.

Tamara Tarpinian Jahim, whose son Eric was also a victim of violence in a gang-related shooting, penned a poignant eulogy for Gorman’s family. She expressed profound sympathy, saying, “My family understands your pain, having experienced a similar tragedy with our 21-year-old son on July 1, 2025. We wish you strength in this incredibly difficult time.” She emphasized how unbearable this pain can be, adding her prayers for all families affected by such losses.

In a chat with Fox News Digital, Tarpinian Jahim shared her disgust upon hearing about Gorman’s death. “I was angry. Disgusted, really. This issue is persistent in Chicago, and it simply shouldn’t be happening,” she remarked. She believes elected officials often overlook the impact on victims’ families, focusing instead on other concerns.

Her son Eric was mentioned as an unintended target during a drive-by shooting where multiple assailants opened fire indiscriminately. Police clarified that he was not the intended victim.

Jahim voiced the need for collective action among victim’s families, saying, “They need to fight. We all need to unite.” She expressed her solidarity with the Gorman family, highlighting their shared grief.

She also asserted the importance of accountability for leaders in Chicago and Illinois, stating, “The governor, the mayor—what they’ve been saying recently is disheartening. It breaks my heart that so many lives are being lost.” The suspected shooter, Medina-Medina, will have his court appearance on Friday.

Gorman, who hailed from Yorktown Heights, New York, is remembered in his obituary as someone who made others feel valued and appreciated. He participated in various high school activities, including field hockey and lacrosse.

The obituary detailed Gorman’s exceptional warmth and positivity, describing him as someone who radiated energy and compassion. It highlighted his deep love for his family and friends, mentioning how he had a gift for uplifting those around him.

Amidst the discussion of violence and loss, conversations about responsibility and community formation seem essential as families grapple with their heartache and seek change.
