JD Vance Claims White House Intends to Target Ilhan Omar for Suspected Immigration Fraud

Vice President Vance Targets Ilhan Omar Over Immigration Fraud Allegations

Vice President J.D. Vance announced on Friday that the White House intends to investigate Democratic Representative Ilhan Omar from Minnesota over allegations of immigration fraud.

For some time now, President Donald Trump and other conservatives have claimed that Omar married her brother, Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, in 2009 to help facilitate their emigration to the United States. Vance stated during an appearance on “The Benny Johnson Show” that the White House firmly believes she committed fraud and is actively exploring options to pursue legal action against her.

“We definitely think Ilhan Omar has committed immigration fraud,” Vance remarked. “As for what steps to take next, we’re considering the various options available. Now that we know about the alleged fraud, how can we pursue her? What legal pathways exist? How do we build a solid case for justice? Additionally, she has been a key figure in some of the most egregious fraud cases in the Somali community,” he added.

Omar reportedly married Ahmed Elmi in a public ceremony in Minnesota in 2009, after marrying Ahmed Abdisaran Hirsi seven years prior. According to a timeline from the Daily Mail, she separated from Elmi in 2011 but did not finalize the divorce until 2017, eventually reconciling with Hirsi and having a child with him.

In 2018, Omar remarried Hirsi, but their relationship deteriorated as she faced accusations of an affair with Democratic consultant Tim Mynett, leading to another divorce.

Vance has recently established a new anti-fraud task force, which convened for the first time on Friday. This group aims to address fraud within social services across the U.S., focusing specifically on cases in Minnesota.

Numerous individuals in Minnesota’s Somali community have been charged with misappropriating up to $1 billion in taxpayer funds allocated to social welfare programs, including $300 million from a child nutrition initiative aimed at helping low-income families during the COVID-19 pandemic. Reports have surfaced suggesting that over a dozen daycare centers run by Somalis have failed to provide the intended services.

Omar has criticized Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for its actions against Somali communities in Minnesota, including claims that these communities are being unfairly targeted in welfare fraud investigations.

In February, Vance disclosed that his office plans to cut funding for Minnesota’s Medicaid program due to concerns over fraud. He emphasized that this decision aims to ensure Minnesota is accountable for managing taxpayer dollars responsibly.
