Tiger Woods Involvement in Rollover Crash
On Friday, President Donald Trump commented on the rollover crash involving golfer Tiger Woods, who was arrested on charges of driving under the influence after being suspected of impaired driving. The crash has drawn significant attention, especially given Woods’ prominent status in the sports world.
The president shared his thoughts with reporters upon his arrival in Miami, noting that he learned about the incident only shortly before speaking. “I feel very bad. He’s having some trouble,” Trump remarked. “There was an accident. That’s all I know. A very close friend of mine, he’s a great guy, a great guy, but there were some challenges.”
Woods’ personal life also adds complexity to the situation; he is currently dating Vanessa Trump, the president’s former daughter-in-law. Just earlier in the week, he participated in the TGL Championship, where Vanessa and her daughter were present in the audience. This marked Woods’ return to competitive golf after suffering an Achilles tendon injury prior to last year’s Masters.
Previously, Trump had expressed his support for Woods’ relationship, saying he was happy for them both. “Tiger, that’s good, that’s good. I’m very happy for both of them,” Trump said last March.
Charges Against Woods
Tiger Woods is facing several charges, including DUI, damage to property, and refusal to take a sobriety test after the afternoon crash, which involved colliding with another vehicle. Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek explained that Woods displayed signs of impairment, despite also mentioning past injuries and surgeries that were discussed during the roadside examination.
Authorities had no initial indicators that alcohol was involved, but it became apparent when Woods refused a urine test during questioning. This led to the DUI charge along with the other offenses.
While Woods is a renowned five-time winner at Augusta National, there are indications that he might not compete in this year’s Masters, although Trump believes he will attend the event without actively playing.
