Swalwell Critiques Trump’s Funding Priorities
During a recent episode of MS NOW’s “The Chris Jansing Report,” California gubernatorial candidate Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) expressed strong criticism of President Donald Trump, suggesting that he neglects to fund those who ensure public safety in favor of supporting domestic terrorist groups. He noted that the Senate’s DHS funding bill could potentially enable lawmakers to dismantle ICE at all levels.
Swalwell emphasized that many Californians share a desire to eliminate ICE entirely, stating that the new Senate proposal could facilitate this change. He commented, “We haven’t allocated any funds to ICE or CBP. Senate Democrats believe that if ICE seeks reform, they should be transparent—removing masks, displaying IDs, and obtaining judicial permission before executing any actions that might endanger families. If they genuinely want to reform, they better come to the negotiating table. ICE hasn’t shown readiness for this.” He added, “My stance aligns with wanting to remove their presence from our neighborhoods. They promised to target the most dangerous individuals, but ironically, 94% of those detained and deported were nonviolent offenders.”
Guest host Alex Witt inquired about the implications for TSA employees if the House passes the bill and it receives presidential approval, including timelines for an airport return to normalcy.
Swalwell responded, “The President has already indicated he’s addressing their pay through an executive order. Our primary focus should be on compensating TSA and DHS personnel who maintain our safety. This president has instigated a conflict because the FBI seems to be more inclined to pursue political adversaries rather than tackling genuine threats. They’ve dismissed counterterrorism officials who were addressing issues with Iran, and it’s unlikely they’ll repeat those efforts. His approach appears to prioritize the funding of groups that threaten national security over supporting those who genuinely protect us. He has the ability to streamline this process by urging Republicans to act swiftly in the Senate. You can voice your opinion, but ultimately, his administration seems overwhelmed with various agendas instead of honing in on defending our nation, combating threats abroad, and reducing expenses as he initially promised.
