Doncic Suspended After 16th Technical Foul

The NBA revealed on Saturday that Luka Doncic of the Lakers accrued his 16th technical foul during Friday’s victory against the Nets. As a consequence, he will face a one-game suspension.

Doncic is set to sit out the game when the Lakers take on the Wizards on Monday.

According to league regulations, a player or coach is automatically suspended for one game without pay upon receiving their 16th technical foul during the regular season.

Every two technical fouls lead to an automatic one-game suspension, which complicates the landscape for players. Doncic will become eligible to return for the Lakers’ home game against the Cavaliers on Tuesday.

This recent technical foul occurred during a tense moment halfway through the third quarter. Doncic was involved in a confrontation with Nets forward Zaire Williams after an offensive foul was called against him.

After Doncic shoved Williams, who retaliated by punching him while Doncic’s back was turned, both received technicals. The officials confirmed that Doncic’s push and Williams’ reaction warranted a double technical foul.

After the game, Doncic commented on the incident, expressing frustration. He noted, “My push was exaggerated, but clearly it wasn’t,” reflecting a feeling of confusion regarding the call.

Before this season, Doncic had found himself close to being suspended due to technical fouls multiple times but managed to avoid it. This marks the first time he has been suspended for accumulating technical fouls, a scenario he narrowly escaped last season.

Leading up to this suspension, Doncic had been performing exceptionally well. Since February 28, he averaged 36.5 points with impressive shooting percentages during the Lakers’ strong stretch of play, which includes a record of 14 wins and 2 losses.
