Former NFL Star Joey Browner Passes Away at 65

Joey Browner, a celebrated former NFL defensive back, renowned mainly for his tenure with the Minnesota Vikings, has passed away at the age of 65, as confirmed by the team on Sunday.

Drafted by the Vikings in the first round of the 1983 NFL Draft, Browner upped his game quickly, securing a starting position by his second season. By his third year, he earned his first Pro Bowl selection.

Browner was a standout player throughout his career, making the Pro Bowl six times and receiving three first-team All-Pro honors. Additionally, he was named to the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s All-Team for the 1980s.

Former Vikings player Steve Jordan expressed his sorrow, stating, “We lost a great friend and one of our best teammates on the Vikings. God gave Joey an incredible talent and a big heart who loved others and was a beacon of positivity. He will be truly missed.”

During his nine-year stint with the Vikings, Browner recorded 37 interceptions and 9.5 sacks over 138 games. In 2013, the Vikings honored him by inducting him into their Circle of Honor.

One memorable season was 1990 when Browner played all 16 games, achieving a personal best with seven interceptions. Although he participated in six playoff matches, he unfortunately missed out on the Super Bowl.

After a brief period with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 1992, Browner decided to retire from professional football.
