Marlins Celebrate Teal Sunday with Walk-off Win
On Sunday, the Miami Marlins revived nostalgia with throwback uniforms during their game against the Colorado Rockies. This special event, known as Teal Sunday, was a hit with fans.
Perhaps the uniforms had some kind of magic attached to them. When Owen Casey stepped up to the plate with two outs in the ninth inning, he knocked a deep pitch from Victor Vodnyk high into the right field stands, clinching a walk-off home run.
Miami edged out Colorado, winning 4-3. The Marlins announced they plan to consistently host Teal Sunday during their home season games. The jerseys featured the original Florida Marlins logo, giving a nod to the team’s roots.
A message on the team’s site described the jersey as not just a piece of clothing but a tribute to the moments that created lasting fan connections. It’s, you know, a salute to the legacy of the early Marlins teams and the players who are currently striving to continue that tradition.
Founded alongside the Rockies back in 1993, the Marlins have also seen their share of ups and downs. They famously won World Series titles in 1997 and 2003, though the team has since gone through rebuilding phases. This season, they’re looking to make a playoff push under the leadership of second-year head coach Clayton McCullough. Notably, they haven’t reached the postseason since 2023.
After securing the win over the Rockies, the Marlins are off to a strong start this season, now holding a 3-0 record. They will face the Chicago White Sox next on Monday.
