'An Oddity in This Situation': Brit Hume Analyzes What the No Kings Protest Shows About Current Politics

No Kings Protests Highlight Political Tensions

On Monday, Fox News analyst Britt Hume discussed the recent No Kings protests, describing them as emblematic of the current climate in American politics—intense and somewhat absurd.

Thousands gathered in Washington, D.C., on Saturday for nationwide No Kings Day demonstrations aimed at President Donald Trump and his administration. In an appearance on “Special Report with Bret Bayer,” Hume characterized the protests as both shocking and ironic, suggesting they reveal more about the fervor of American political sentiment than any real threat to democracy.

“There’s a certain absurdity to this whole situation,” Hume remarked. “Regardless of what you think about Trump, he isn’t trying to be a king. The idea that he’s constantly pushing against the limitations of our democratic system is, frankly, a bit ridiculous,” he remarked to Bayer.

Hume emphasized that the protests underscore the strong opposition to Trump. “I think it reflects how many people are willing to hit the streets like this. They may have various causes, but the main sentiment is definitely anti-Trump. It’s a powerful feeling in this country. Not that it accounts for a majority, but it’s definitely felt strongly,” he said.

He pointed out the irony in the protests, calling them a symbolic triumph. “Let’s see this as a significant achievement. They’ve organized three major events in under a year—doesn’t that say something? And, importantly, we still don’t have a king. They’ve succeeded, in a way,” Hume added.

This past Saturday marked the third No Kings rally, following earlier events in June and October 2025. While the protesters claim to be opposing U.S. authoritarianism, several affiliated organizations have been known to support authoritarian regimes abroad.

Notably, the organizers include the United States Communist Party and the Democratic Socialists of America, both of which have openly endorsed dictatorial governments. White House press secretary Abigail Jackson dismissed the protests as merely “Trump’s confusion therapy sessions.”
