Chris Streveler Announces Retirement from NFL
NFL quarterback Chris Streveler, known for his time with the Arizona Cardinals and New York Jets, has decided to retire at the age of 31. He shared this news via a video on his Instagram account on Monday.
“I love football, but today is my last day as a football player,” Streveler stated in the video. He expressed gratitude for the opportunities the sport provided him, saying, “This game has given me opportunities beyond my wildest dreams. It has allowed me to take on obstacles I thought I would never overcome.”
Reflecting on his journey, he added, “This game has created lifelong bonds with people I would never have met otherwise. I’ve been playing this game since I was 8 years old, and today I turn 31.”
Streveler played college football at both Minnesota and South Dakota before embarking on his NFL career. He joined the Cardinals during the 2020 season but never started a game there, playing in seven contests where he completed 17 of 25 passes for a total of 141 yards and one touchdown. He later signed with the Miami Dolphins in 2022, although he didn’t see playing time during that stint.
After being released by the Dolphins, he joined the Jets and was one of four quarterbacks to start during that season. Streveler’s first career start came in Week 15 against the Jacksonville Jaguars, where he completed 10 of 15 passes for 90 yards. Unfortunately, the Jets lost that game 23-6, and he was waived before the 2023 season began.
Before his time in the NFL, Streveler had also played two seasons with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the Canadian Football League, where he contributed to the team’s victory in the Grey Cup, even though he primarily served as a backup.
