Haley Stevens' job posting welcomes candidates of all citizenship statuses

Campaign for Senate Seat Encourages Diverse Applicants

Rep. Haley Stevens (D-Mich.) is actively seeking candidates for the role of political chief of staff in her Senate campaign, which is quite competitive. Interestingly, her job listing encourages applicants regardless of their immigration or citizenship status.

The campaign’s job posting emphasizes that they are an “equal opportunity employer” and welcomes individuals from various educational and demographic backgrounds to apply.

When a question arose about hiring undocumented immigrants, a campaign spokesperson indicated adherence to U.S. laws, stating, “Mr. Haley’s campaign is happy to consider qualified applicants to work in the United States.”

This aligns with the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986, which prohibits the employment of unauthorized foreign nationals, carrying potential penalties for employers if violated.

These regulations are overseen by the Department of Homeland Security and Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Interestingly, it’s not clear if Stevens has used similar phrases in her past job listings.

Stevens, who has been a representative for Michigan’s 11th Congressional District for four terms, is vying for a Senate position to take over from the retiring U.S. Sen. Gary Peters (D-Mich.).

The race is shaping up to be intense, with significant contenders such as progressive candidate Abdul El-Sayed and state Sen. Mallory McMorrow stepping into the fray.
