Millie Alcock to Star in Warner Bros. Film *Super Girl*
Millie Alcock is set to feature in the upcoming Warner Bros. film *Super Girl*, which is scheduled for release on June 26 this year. The film has sparked controversy, with Alcock suggesting that she faces criticism for simply “existing as a woman” within the superhero genre.
In a recent chat with *Vanity Fair*, Alcock reflected on the pressures of being a woman in the industry, stating, “I definitely realized that just existing as a woman in that space was something people would criticize. We’ve become very comfortable with having this weird ownership over women’s bodies. I can’t really stop them. I can only be myself.”
Alcock previously finished shooting for *House of the Dragon*, but after not landing any roles for a year as she approached 2025, she decided to take on *Super Girl*. She had hinted at her role in the film with a brief appearance in last year’s reboot of *Superman*, which is part of a larger effort by Warner Bros. to restart their superhero franchise under the direction of James Gunn.
“I was so scared that my life would be over at 22, and of course that wasn’t the case,” she admitted, reflecting on her career after *House of the Dragon* and *Siren*. “I’ve bullied myself,” she added, acknowledging the doubts she faced.
She also responded to remarks from well-known directors like Martin Scorsese and Ridley Scott, who have criticized superhero films. “I get it. They’ve always made phenomenal movies. Not every movie is for everyone. The beauty of art is that you have a choice,” Alcock noted.
Alcock’s perspective is interesting; she suggests *Super Girl* could come under fire for various reasons, not just for gender-related issues. After all, some felt the previous *Superman* film was overly “woke.” Unfortunately for Warner Bros., they seem eager to establish their superhero lineup as equivalent to Marvel’s successes, but it appears that *Superman* didn’t significantly impact their franchise’s financial standings.
