Joseph Duggar Pleads Not Guilty to Child Molestation Charges

Joseph Duggar has asked for a jury trial after entering a not guilty plea regarding child molestation allegations. The 31-year-old reality TV personality faces charges of lewd acts with a child under 12 and inappropriate touching. During his initial court appearance in Bay County, Florida, Judge Brantley Clark set his bail at $600,000.

The judge has also instructed Duggar to maintain no contact with the alleged victim, either directly or indirectly, and prohibited any unsupervised interactions with minors under 18.

His next court date is scheduled for April 20th.

Details of the Allegations

Duggar, known for his role on TLC’s “19 Kids and Counting,” was arrested in Arkansas on March 18. This arrest followed an interview with a 14-year-old girl who alleged that Duggar had inappropriately touched her multiple times during family trips when she was just 9 years old.

An arrest affidavit indicates that Duggar admitted to the abuse when confronted by the girl’s father. Law enforcement facilitated a call from the father to Duggar, during which Duggar was reportedly asked to confess again.

Duggar appeared in court in Florida, where his attorney argued for a reasonable bond. His lawyer noted that Duggar has no prior criminal record, not even a minor offense like a speeding ticket. The lawyer added that Duggar’s father was prepared to come to town to post bail if requested.

Reactions from Family

Amy Duggar King, a cousin of Joseph, expressed her distress over the situation. She shared her feelings of sickness and anger regarding the allegations. “My thoughts are with the victim, a child who deserved safety and support,” she stated. King commended the victim’s courage for coming forward after such a long time.

Dr. King expressed being shocked yet not entirely surprised by the emergence of another alleged predator from their family background. He emphasized that family connections shouldn’t automatically imply trust, especially when the safety of children is at stake.
