Umpire’s Unusual Call Draws Laughter During Brewers vs. Rays Game

During a recent game between the Milwaukee Brewers and the Tampa Bay Rays, MLB umpire CB Buckner caught everyone’s attention—mostly for a rather peculiar call on the first base line. It certainly made waves and even elicited some laughter from the crowd.

This incident took place in the bottom of the sixth inning, where Brewers’ batter Jake Bowers faced off against Rays pitcher Cole Sulcer. Bowers hit a line drive towards second baseman Ben Williamson, who managed to knock it down but then threw the ball wide to first base.

Surprisingly, Buckner declared that Bowers had failed to touch first base and called him out upon being tagged. However, replays clearly showed that Bowers had indeed stepped on the base just a couple of feet away from the play. As you might expect, this call was quickly overturned.

Bowers returned to first base with a smile, and Brewers’ manager Pat Murphy was equally amused. Even Rays’ manager Kevin Cash couldn’t help but chuckle at the strange turn of events.

Former Yankees pitcher Joba Chamberlain chimed in on social media, expressing disbelief over the call: “This is so bad I can’t help but laugh!! Something has to be done,” he posted.

In the end, Milwaukee secured a 6-2 victory. Bowers had a solid performance, going 2-for-4 with two hits and one RBI. He even hit a home run in the eighth inning to extend the lead, showcasing his talents despite the earlier confusion.

It’s worth mentioning that Gary Sanchez also contributed by hitting a home run in this game.

Following this victory, Milwaukee improved their record to 4 wins and 1 loss, while Tampa Bay fell to 2-3.
