Kristi Noem's husband’s cross-dressing photos show significant vetting mistake, say experts

Disturbing images of Kristi Noem’s husband in women’s clothing have raised serious questions about security oversights that could expose a former Homeland Security secretary to potential blackmail, according to security experts.

A photograph showing Bryon Noem with exaggerated breasts and fake nipples reportedly left Kristi Noem feeling overwhelmed after it surfaced, as noted in a recent report.

Tracy Walder, a former CIA operative, suggested that Noem’s comments might indicate shortcomings in the vetting process for her prominent security role.

Walder recounted her lengthy and thorough experience of background checks when she joined the government years ago. “When I started at the CIA, it was standard for spouses and partners to undergo scrutiny,” she explained. She climbed the ranks to become chief of operations at the CIA’s counterterrorism center and later a special agent in the FBI.

“They check criminal history, foreign connections, financial stability, and credibility,” she said, detailing her rigorous vetting experience. She recalled how investigators interviewed her sorority sisters, parents, and even family friends.

“At just 20, I had no real skeletons. I went through two grueling polygraph tests over two days,” Walder added, reflecting on the depth of investigation during her recruitment.

Walder emphasized that any connection to questionable activities could be exploited by malicious actors, indicating a significant risk for officials like Noem.

In an inquiry into Bryon’s alleged involvement in a specific fetish community, it was found that he spent at least $25,000 communicating with online models.

Walder pointed out that such financial behavior could compromise both him and Kristi Noem, noting that CIA officers are closely monitored for unusual financial activities every couple of years, especially since the Aldrich Ames incident.

“Noem’s husband’s expenditures on these fetish sites certainly stands out,” she suggested.

Moving forward, Kristi Noem may face inquiries about when she first learned about her husband’s online activities, especially following his exit from DHS in March.

Attorney Bradley P. Moss commented that typical employees would face heightened scrutiny given such revelations about a partner’s secretive lifestyle, adding that it raises significant security concerns.

According to national security attorney Dan Meyer, the issue isn’t about sexual orientation, but rather the potential for exploitation of such information against Noem. “Federal security procedures have changed, but as long as the actions remain legal and consensual, they typically won’t affect clearance,” he stated.

Meyer also warned that even legitimate activities could lead to vulnerabilities, with threats of exposure looming from revealing personal choices or appearances.
