Senate Stalemate on SAVE America Act
For months now, the Senate has struggled to pass the SAVE America Act, which many consider the most critical legislation currently before Congress. Despite strong backing from President Trump and substantial public support from both political parties, progress has stalled. Additionally, the Department of Homeland Security remains underfunded and unable to operate effectively.
Pursuing President Trump’s agenda would necessitate considerable shifts within the Senate. A promising start could be the appointment of Ken Paxton. He’s a well-versed conservative who has emerged from a politically charged impeachment trial with renewed strength. For years, Paxton has been a staunch ally of Trump, standing against the Islamization of Texas, opposing the left’s open-border policies, and countering what he sees as the excesses of the Democratic Party. He’s ready to battle for the President in the Senate, which many believe is precisely what Texas requires right now.
Paxton is a familiar figure in Texas, currently locked in a fierce primary runoff against incumbent John Cornyn, who enjoys substantial financial backing. However, many Texans are craving change—specifically, a senator who will vigorously oppose the left and fight tenaciously to achieve victory. Ken Paxton fits that bill.
Take the situation with the SAVE America Act, for instance. It was widely understood that passing this bill would rely on utilizing the “talking filibuster.” Unfortunately, Senator Cornyn was initially unwilling to engage, that is, until Ken Paxton compelled him to take action. Only then did Cornyn express support for the legislation.
Texans recognize it was Paxton leading the charge for the SAVE America Act, not Cornyn. This matter could shape the future of the nation. When stakes are high, Texas demands a senator who will take the fight seriously rather than one who hesitantly shifts right to please constituents in a tense primary race.
It’s worth remembering that illegal immigration has been a hot-button issue throughout the 2024 election cycle. Republicans were tasked with a three-part mission to secure borders and facilitate the removal of illegal immigrants. The American public has expressed a desire to regain control, expecting the Republican Party to fulfill that role.
One of the most unforgivable betrayals in politics would be granting amnesty to illegal aliens. Such a move could fracture the Republican Party. Unfortunately, Cornyn has a lengthy history of supporting amnesty, a trend that appears to be ongoing.
Back in 2003, he championed an immigration reform bill that, if enacted, would have offered amnesty to millions while establishing personal investment accounts funded by taxes for newly pardoned individuals. Interestingly, during the defense of that 2004 proposal, Cornyn condemned those he labeled “extremists” for wanting to build a wall to halt illegal immigration. That rhetoric continued for years, and as recently as 2016, he criticized Trump’s border wall suggestion as “naive” and “utterly nonsensical.”
In 2018, Cornyn pushed for a bipartisan immigration reform initiative that would have granted amnesty to 1.8 million illegal immigrants. Surprising enough, he still prioritizes this goal. Just last month, he indicated in a Politico interview that amnesty for DACA recipients would remain a significant focus if he’s re-elected.
It’s difficult for me to support a Republican Senate candidate from my state who doesn’t starkly reject amnesty, especially following four years marked by chaotic and destructive border openings. Cornyn has missed the mark. America needs to prioritize deportation over amnesty, a sentiment echoed by my constituents.
Equally troubling is Cornyn’s track record of backing mass immigration, which some believe contributes to the unsettling Islamization of Texas. In 2021, he urged President Biden to accelerate the resettlement of Afghan refugees while seeking to waive documentation requirements. Also, during the pandemic, he pushed for regulations that would ease immigration processes for Afghan immigrants. It’s evident that bringing many impoverished Afghan Muslims into American communities poses serious risks, which we are witnessing now.
This approach is simply not sustainable. For the Republican Party to thrive long-term, it must acknowledge that borders are significant and that it isn’t mandatory to welcome cultures lacking the capacity for assimilation. Voters expect action on common-sense legislation like the SAVE America Act. Ignoring these pressing issues could be a betrayal that jeopardizes the party’s future. Immigration is an undeniable factor in every aspect.
The Senate requires a fierce conservative warrior, someone who stands with Trump and fights alongside him when it counts. Texas needs a senator ready to oppose amnesty fiercely, not advocate for it.
Above all, Texans deserve a senator who knows the reality of the situation—who sees that Americans feel they are losing their country and recognizes it’s our responsibility to address that. Ken Paxton has consistently proven he’s up to the task.
Selecting Ken Paxton could be a pivotal opportunity in 2026 to convey to Washington that Texans will not accept anything less. That’s why I’m casting my vote for Paxton in the upcoming primary, and I encourage others to consider doing the same.
