Trump’s Press Secretary Appointment: A Casual Phone Call
There were no grand gestures or formal gatherings involved—just a quick phone conversation.
White House press secretary Caroline Levitt recounted how President Trump informed her of her new role after the election during a simple chat. He casually mentioned, “By the way, you’re going to be White House press secretary, right?”
While speaking at a Turning Point USA event at George Washington University, Levitt described that moment as “the most anti-climactic thing ever,” highlighting the lack of formality surrounding the offer.
“About a week after the election,” she said, “the president and I were chatting on the phone about something unrelated.” She recalled Trump saying, “Oh, by the way, you’re going to be the White House press secretary, right?” and her reply was something like, “Oh, I understand.”
Levitt continued, explaining how Trump shifted the topic: “Well, about the other thing, what do you think about that? What should we do? What should we say?”
She added that the appointment lacked “pomp and circumstance,” which seemed to align perfectly with what many would expect from Trump.
Levitt, who previously worked on Trump’s 2024 campaign after a congressional defeat in New Hampshire, was serving as his press secretary before this new role came about post-election.
Interestingly, she mentioned that her appointment didn’t follow a structured process. “I was hoping I could get a job, but I don’t know if I’ll be able to get a job,” she admitted. It’s kind of a whirlwind, really.
On a personal note, Levitt shared that she gave birth to her son in July 2024 and is currently nine months pregnant with her daughter. Life seems to be ever-changing, doesn’t it?
