A wild coyote attacked a 4-year-old boy in a driveway in Los Angeles, and the frightening incident was captured on video.
This occurred on Tuesday morning in Carson, as the boy’s family was unloading their SUV. Suddenly, the coyote leaped at the young child, biting him with considerable ferocity.
The child sustained injuries to his leg and torso but was hospitalized with injuries that were thankfully not life-threatening, according to reports.
“It all happened in an instant,” the boy’s grandmother remarked. “They strike so quickly, so just be cautious.”
Authorities indicated that this attack is part of a concerning trend. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife mentioned that DNA evidence connects coyotes to another recent incident in Carson.
Investigators are also looking into additional encounters with children in Carson, as well as another case in nearby Gardena, raising alarms about increasing aggressive behavior in the area.
Wildlife officials are collaborating with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department to search neighborhoods for the coyote, aiming to capture it before it can cause further harm.
Coyotes have been a familiar sight in neighborhoods near homes, schools, and parks, so encountering them isn’t unusual for residents. However, officials caution that this familiarity can quickly become perilous.
They advise families to keep young children and pets in view, dispose of unsafe trash and food sources like pet food, and to report any unusually bold or aggressive coyote behavior immediately.
