Tiger Woods expresses his desire to compete in the Masters in DUI bodycam video

Tiger Woods taken into custody for DUI after crashing with pills in his pocket

Tiger Woods’ Recent DUI Incident and Commitment to Recovery

Body camera footage from the DUI arrest of Tiger Woods in Jupiter Island, Florida last Friday revealed the 15-time major champion expressing his “hope” to compete in this year’s Masters. While sitting in the back of a police car, he discussed golf with an officer, who mentioned a putter Woods claimed helped him win “14 majors.” When asked about his participation in the Masters, Woods simply said, “I hope.”

Earlier this week, Augusta National Golf Club’s chairman Fred Ridley confirmed that Woods would not be participating in the upcoming major tournament following his rollover crash and subsequent arrest. Ridley extended support, stating, “Tiger won’t be joining us in person next week, but his presence will be felt here at Augusta.”

It seems Woods was contemplating a return to the Masters even before the incident occurred. Following the arrest, he announced he would be stepping back from golf to “seek treatment.” He faces charges related to driving under the influence, causing property damage, and refusing a blood alcohol level test. Authorities indicated that he showed signs of impairment when he collided with another vehicle.

Woods later declared his not guilty plea, requested a jury trial, and emphasized the seriousness of his situation. He expressed a commitment to taking time for himself to focus on health and recovery. “I am committed to returning to a healthier, stronger, and more focused place,” he stated.

During the arrest, Woods was found with prescription opioids in his pocket, and deputies noted several signs of impairment. They described him as appearing “lethargic and sluggish,” with bloodshot, glassy, and dilated eyes.

This incident marks Woods’ second DUI arrest in a decade. In 2017, he was also detained in Jupiter Island after falling asleep behind the wheel while under the influence of prescription medications.

Woods had previously suffered serious injuries in a rollover accident in 2021 that necessitated emergency surgery. He continues to participate in tournaments, with plans to play in the U.S. Senior Open this July, as mentioned by his teammate Kevin Kisner. As the golf world watches, Woods’ next steps will be closely followed amid his journey toward recovery.
