Simply put
- Algorand has surged over 40% this past week after Google referenced a “real-world deployment” of post-quantum protocols in a research paper.
- The surge in interest surrounding AI contributed to a 10% rise within just 24 hours.
- Amid ongoing geopolitical uncertainty, many users are seeing an 82% likelihood that oil prices will eventually reach $120.
In a recent Google research paper, Algorand was identified as an early adopter of post-quantum protocols within the blockchain space.
Algorand’s value climbed roughly 13% to $0.12 in the last 24 hours, significantly outperforming the broader cryptocurrency market, as reported by CoinGecko. Over the week, it has increased by more than 44%, largely due to growing interest in its quantum resistance narrative.
The Google white paper titled “Securing Elliptic Curve Cryptocurrencies Against Quantum Vulnerabilities,” released on March 31, referenced Algorand as a notable example of “a real-world deployment of PQC on a quantum-vulnerable blockchain.”
This paper highlighted that Algorand has incorporated post-quantum Falcon digital signatures for smart transactions and proof of state, facilitating the first PQC-secured transactions by 2025 and allowing for native key rotation. The authors noted that while this mechanism doesn’t offer complete quantum security yet, it paves the way for future PQC developments.
Leo Huang, founder of Cysic and former head of quantum resilience at Algorand, commented that this paper reflects a growing awareness of the risks posed by quantum computing.
“Algorand is distinguished because post-quantum signature schemes like Falcon are operational on the mainnet and specifically mentioned in Google’s paper, creating strong technical and narrative momentum,” he explained. Huang added that if the interest in quantum security continues to build, it “might evolve into a lasting market theme” supported by credible long-term risks and institutional research.
Other analysts shared similar sentiments.
“The rise in Algorand’s stock price seems closely linked to the release of Google’s quantum AI paper,” noted Ilya Otichenko, a principal analyst at a crypto exchange. He pointed out that the paper emphasizes Algorand’s practical implementation and leadership in post-quantum cryptography, drawing significant attention to the project.
The market appears to view this citation as a validation of Algorand’s inherent advantages in quantum safety, as Andri Fauzan Azima, research director at Bitru, mentioned. He acknowledged the risks relating to volatility and profit-taking but suggested that “strong trading volume and technical advancements” could spur momentum in the short term.
Preparing for Q-day
This quote illustrates that Google recognizes Algorand as a frontrunner in gearing up for “Q-Day,” a potential future point when quantum computers could undermine current cryptographic standards.
The white paper also highlighted that Algorand enables real-world asset tokenization at the protocol level and supports post-quantum digital signatures, facilitating the use of USDC on its network.
Other players in the sector have also seen gains, such as Lender, which reported a nearly 10% increase on the day and around 9% over the week.
Render Network, a distributed GPU computing platform catering to a range of applications from 3D rendering to generative AI, is benefiting from the growing demand and excitement around AI.
Overall, sentiment in the crypto market remains cautious and is reacting sensitively to geopolitical news. Bitcoin is trading around $66,925, reflecting a modest 0.8% increase for the day, according to CoinGecko data.
Prediction market users calculate that there’s a significant probability of Bitcoin rallying to $84,000, while oil is projected to potentially rise to $120 amid ongoing geopolitical uncertainties.
This uncertainty has intensified recently, especially with President Trump indicating intentions to take strong actions regarding Iran in the coming weeks, which does not bode well for oil prices and puts pressure on risk assets.
