Audience Reacts to SNL Joke on Trump
During a recent episode of Saturday Night Live, the live audience reacted enthusiastically to a joke referencing the potential assassination of President Donald Trump while he was attending a musical.
Trump, accompanied by First Lady Melania Trump, attended the opening night of “Chicago” at the Kennedy Center on Tuesday and was reportedly met with mostly positive reactions, according to the Associated Press. While hosting the “Weekend Update,” Michael Che made a comment that seemed to allude to the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln, who was killed during a performance at Ford’s Theater in 1865.
Che remarked, “President Trump attended the opening night of ‘Chicago’ at the Kennedy Center, and I think that’s cool that the President is going to the theater. I mean, what’s the worst that could happen?” This elicited laughter, followed by cheers and applause from the audience.
Trump has survived two assassination attempts during his current presidential campaign. On July 13, 2024, at a rally in Butler County, Pennsylvania, he was slightly injured when a bullet grazed his ear, fired by Thomas Crooks. Another attempt on September 15, 2024, by Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, was halted by Secret Service agents at the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach.
Additionally, Secret Service agents shot and killed an unidentified man who attempted to breach security at Mar-a-Lago early on February 22. Law enforcement officials stated that the man, in his early 20s and armed with a shotgun and a gas can, was confronted by agents and local deputies.
On January 25, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office in West Virginia reported that Morgan L. Morrow from Ripley was charged with making a terroristic threat after allegedly seeking out someone with a “terminal illness” to carry out an attack on Trump.
The White House has not yet responded to inquiries regarding this incident.
