Jon Jones Involved in Controversial Incident
Jon Jones seems to be making headlines again, and not necessarily for the right reasons.
Footage has surfaced showing the renowned but often controversial MMA fighter having a confrontation with a man named Brian Beltran in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Beltran alleges that Jones nearly hit him with his truck on multiple occasions.
“You’re about to hit me,” Beltran can be heard telling Jones in the video shared online.
Jones exited his vehicle and told Beltran, “Calm down, kid. You need to relax,” before driving away from the scene.
Beltran took to Instagram to elaborate on what happened, which has drawn considerable attention since it went public. He recounted how the first close call happened when he revved his engine at Jones, and then noted that Jones almost struck him again after that. Beltran mentioned that the incident escalated when Jones stopped in the middle of the road before pulling into a parking lot.
Beltran expressed some frustration, particularly mentioning that he was aware of Jones’ reputation as a UFC champion. “I didn’t realize who he was at first, but I knew he was fast!” he commented with a laughing emoji. He added, “No hard feelings towards Jon, but maybe he needs some driving lessons.” He even joked about hoping to make another video in the future to “squash the beef.”
At this point, Jones has not publicly addressed the confrontation, and it’s uncertain if he plans to do so.
Beltran also touched on comments made by others in his post, dismissing any animosity. “For those of you who think I’m too hard on Jon, it’s really not such a big deal,” he mentioned. “I know he’s a world champion, but I think he should exercise a little more caution. Things can escalate quickly, no matter who is behind the wheel.” He reassured followers that he’s not someone who carries weapons, emphasizing that he doesn’t see the need to be overly concerned.
Jones has been in the news lately for other reasons too, including his ongoing disagreements with UFC CEO Dana White regarding his exclusion from a White House event, along with concerns about his MMA career as he recovers from a hip injury.
Additionally, Jones has had run-ins with the law, most notably when he was arrested in March 2020 after officers responded to gunshots and found him in the driver’s seat of his vehicle. He failed a breathalyzer test and faced multiple charges, ultimately pleading guilty to driving while intoxicated as part of a plea agreement that allowed him to avoid prison time. He previously received a suspended sentence in 2015 for leaving the scene of an accident that resulted in injuries to a pregnant woman.
