Controversy Surrounds Fairfax County Attorney
Steve Descano, the attorney backed by George Soros in Fairfax County, Virginia, is facing significant backlash for his statement that deporting criminal immigrants constitutes a “perversion of justice.”
As the district attorney, he has been criticized for releasing an illegal immigrant multiple times—this same individual later went on to kill local resident Stephanie Minter, despite police alerts about his dangerous behavior.
Minter’s tragic death occurred on February 23 at a bus stop in the Highbla Valley area of Fairfax County. Following the incident, authorities apprehended Abdul Jallow, a 32-year-old undocumented immigrant with a violent past, on murder charges.
Reportedly, Jallow, who was originally from Sierra Leone and lacked legal status in the U.S., was on the same bus as Minter and tracked her to the bus stop where he attacked her.
Compounding matters, it was revealed that Jallow had over 30 previous arrests, yet County Attorney Descano opted to drop charges against him and release him on several occasions.
In light of these events, Cheryl Minter, Stephanie’s mother, is now spearheading a recall initiative to remove Descano from office, as pointed out by WJLA-TV reporter Nick Minnock.
There’s a certain inevitability about the criticism aimed at Descano. When campaigning, he made his stance clear—he opposed the deportation of any illegal immigrant. In a now-removed section of his campaign website, he referred to deportation as a “perversion of justice.”
On his campaign page, Descano expressed his commitment to opposing deportations, asserting, “Steve will issue prosecutions and judicial decisions that limit or avoid immigration consequences. Such policies will help maintain our community’s unity and demonstrate our county’s dedication to equal justice for all.” He argued that it is unjust for two individuals committing the same crime to have differing penalties, especially regarding deportation, asserting that it did not reflect the values of Fairfax County.
Senator Eric Schmidt from Missouri has criticized Descano, highlighting his view that he exemplifies the larger Democratic trend of prioritizing illegal immigrants over American citizens.
