TrumpRx Launches Discounted Prescription Drugs

Recently, two significant pharmaceutical companies have joined the effort to provide discounted medications at White House stores. TrumpRx, an initiative aimed at making prescription drugs more affordable, has seen participating companies expand.

In line with the administration’s Most Favored Nation (MFN) program, AbbVie and Genentech are now offering their prescription drugs at prices that align with those in other developed nations. This expansion was highlighted by President Trump on social media the day after the news was announced.

With these additions, the number of pharmaceutical companies participating has risen to eleven. The MFN framework allows these companies to lower domestic drug prices in exchange for relief from hefty import tariffs.

AbbVie secured its partnership with President Trump back in January, resulting in the inclusion of Humira, a widely used biologic medication for autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and Crohn’s disease. Generally, a two-pen supply can cost around $6,922.62 without insurance, but through TrumpRx, it’s available for just $950, reflecting a substantial discount.

Humira’s function centers on inhibiting tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α), a protein from immune cells that contributes to inflammation.

Genentech has also introduced flu treatments and preventative medications. Zofluza, for instance, is currently offered at $50 on the TrumpRx website, which is a significant discount from its original price of $168.83. The partnership with Genentech was initially announced in December.

Zofluza works by blocking an enzyme that the influenza virus requires for replication, and it’s suitable for those aged 5 and older, as well as individuals under 5 who have been exposed to the virus.

TrumpRx, launched in February, primarily aims to assist individuals without health insurance needing prescription medications. Although TrumpRx doesn’t sell drugs directly, customers can utilize coupons at participating pharmacies to reduce their out-of-pocket expenses. If you have insurance, it might be worth checking to see if your current terms are better than the discounted options available through the program.

With the latest additions, TrumpRx now features a total of 61 different drugs, including Ozempic and Wegovy, which are being sold at substantial discounts.
