Trump Suspends Iran Attack Plans for Two Weeks
President Donald Trump has announced a temporary halt to bombing and attack plans regarding Iran, following discussions with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir. This suspension will last for at least two weeks.
The ceasefire is taking place just hours before a declared deadline, during which Trump had warned that failure to negotiate could lead to catastrophic consequences for Iran. He stated that a “whole civilization will perish tonight” if an agreement to fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz was not reached.
Trump expressed that, “Based on conversations with Prime Minister Sharif and Field Marshal Munir, who requested that I hold off on the military actions tonight towards Iran, I agree to suspend these plans for a period of two weeks. This is a double-sided ceasefire. We have already surpassed our military objectives, and we are close to a definitive agreement concerning long-term peace with Iran and peace in the Middle East. We have received a 10-point proposal from Iran, which we find to be a workable foundation for negotiation. Most past points of contention have been addressed, and this two-week period will facilitate the finalization of the agreement. It’s an honor to stand for the resolution of this long-term issue, representing not just the United States but also the countries of the Middle East. Thank you for your attention!”
