Catfight!
A youth softball coach was taken into custody after allegedly attacking a competitor at the conclusion of an Easter weekend game in Georgia. A video of the incident has since gained significant attention online.
Meredith Haskew Grant, who coaches an 8U softball team, reportedly claimed that her team lost because some players from the opposing team were mocking her daughter, as stated in an arrest report.
After the game on Saturday, Grant was seen rushing towards one of the rival coaches after the young players finished high-fiving each other.
She allegedly pushed through a group of children to confront one of the coaches, and a video captured the altercation.
The two women ended up on the ground, nearly knocking over a young girl in the process. As chaos unfolded, the children hurried to their respective dugouts, while the women stood up and continued their struggle, as shown in the viral clip.
Amid the commotion, Miley Cyrus’ song “Wrecking Ball” played loudly, creating an eerie backdrop as adults honked their car horns in the parking lot.
More coaches rushed in to separate them, but Grant ended up back on the ground. Parents shouted for someone to “get those people out of here,” visibly distressed by the scene.
According to one of the rival coaches, Grant allegedly kept “throwing her hands at everyone” while others tried to step in.
Another coach expressed frustration on Facebook, stating, “If you don’t have more discipline, you shouldn’t be coaching kids. Forever. To those who spread rumors about what happened, the big eyes in the sky don’t lie. Try harder.”
Grant contended that a rival coach had “bumped” her face during a handshake after the game. However, law enforcement determined that Grant was the aggressor and subsequently charged her with a misdemeanor.
Furthermore, the state director of the American Fastpitch Association has prohibited Grant from coaching any teams in future tournaments.
