Bryson DeChambeau in great shape, prepared to compete for the Masters title

AUGUSTA, Ga. — Bryson DeChambeau Gears Up for Masters

As the Masters approaches, Bryson DeChambeau, fresh off victories in the last two LIV Golf tournaments, is set to be one of the most competitive players in the opening round on Thursday.

Last year, he played alongside Rory McIlroy in the final draw and ended the day with a 75, tying for fifth place. Despite that outcome, he feels a renewed sense of readiness. “I think I’m playing at my best, honestly. Aside from that incredible 58 at the Greenbrier, everything feels right,” DeChambeau mentioned on Tuesday. “I’m eager to dive into this week and see where I land.”

He was intrigued to learn that the average age of the last two decades’ Masters winners is 32, which happens to be his current age. “If the stats work out for me, that’d be fantastic. But, you know, I try to focus more on my own performance,” he said.

Reflecting on last year’s result, he called it “a valuable lesson.” He elaborated, “Achieving the top spot or tying for it really puts the final round into perspective. It was a rewarding experience to witness it firsthand.”

DeChambeau added, “Ultimately, everything I learned from that scenario has built up slowly over time. I can’t predict what this week will bring, but I want to give it everything I’ve got and aim for that same position again.”

When asked about a potential rivalry with McIlroy, he responded, “A rivalry could really spice things up. There’s nothing wrong with a little competition. It only adds excitement to the game.”

“I respect him fully as a competitor. But, of course, I want to outplay him each time,” DeChambeau admitted. The dynamic of mutual respect paired with the fierce drive to win is part of what makes golf so compelling, according to him.

Meanwhile, Cam Young’s recent experience caught some attention. Just ahead of winning the Players Championship, he was seen attending Mass with his wife and kids near TPC Sawgrass. He shared his thoughts on the importance of faith: “It’s a vital connection for us. Every week, we find a new church, and this opportunity brings us closer together.”

Young explained how they navigated the unique experience of being near a golf tournament while trying to maintain their routine. “We often get lovely feedback like, ‘Thank you for being a role model for our children,’ which is something I really cherish. It’s a great opportunity to highlight our values and what we stand for.”

Looking ahead to Thursday’s round, fans can expect to see a featured group that includes world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler alongside Gary Woodland and Robert McIntyre, as well as defending champion Rory McIlroy with young amateur Mason Howell. Additionally, Jon Rahm, Chris Gotterup, and Ludwig Oberg will also be in the mix, alongside DeChambeau, Matt Fitzpatrick, and Xander Schauffele.
