A Convicted Illegal Alien Charged with Killing Elderly Couple in Arkansas
A convicted illegal alien sex offender, Jose Luis Gomez, 35, has been charged in Benton County, Arkansas, following a drunk driving accident that resulted in the deaths of an elderly couple, Michael Cordes, 70, and his wife, Frieda, 67.
According to police, the couple was riding their Harley-Davidson motorcycle on March 26 when Gomez failed to yield to oncoming traffic and collided with them. Tragically, both Michael and Frieda died at the scene, while Gomez emerged unharmed. Subsequent breathalyzer tests indicated that he was intoxicated during the incident.
Authorities noted that surveillance footage captured the accident and confirmed Gomez’s fault. Senator Tom Cotton commented on the situation, expressing condolences to the Cordes family and emphasizing that such tragedies should never occur.
Colonel Mike Hager, director of the Arkansas State Police, stated that the deaths of Michael and Frieda were “completely preventable,” as Gomez should not have been in the country. Gomez had a record, previously convicted of child cruelty in 2013 and for engaging in sexual acts with a minor in 2016, which resulted in a mere two-year prison sentence.
At the time of this fatal accident, Gomez was wanted on a felony warrant in Los Angeles County, California. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has since filed a motion for his detention and requested to be informed by the Benton County Sheriff’s Office upon his release.
Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders expressed her gratitude to law enforcement for capturing Gomez and reiterated her commitment to public safety through the Defense Against Criminal Illegals Act, which she signed last year. She highlighted the importance of removing violent criminals from the streets.
