Kentucky Powerball Winner Faces Arrest Again
A 51-year-old man from Kentucky, who hit the jackpot with a $167.3 million Powerball prize less than a year ago, has been arrested for the fourth time since his win.
James Shannon Farthing, alongside his mother, discovered that their April 26, 2025 victory was the largest lottery payout in Kentucky’s history.
Recently, police reported that Farthing was arrested on a warrant while allegedly trespassing at a Lexington residence on March 28. Interestingly, a resident observed him on surveillance footage before hearing a loud noise, resembling a door being forced open.
This witness also reported a whopping $12,000 missing in cash from the premises. Eyewitnesses mentioned that Farthing fled the scene in a black Porsche.
Authorities later located him parked nearby. Upon inspection of his vehicle, they discovered marijuana products. As a result, Farthing was charged with marijuana possession and robbery.
After posting a $10,000 cash bond on March 29, he pleaded not guilty to the charges and is set to appear in court on April 27.
Earlier, on February 11, he had been arrested for allegedly threatening a person involved in a legal proceeding. It was noted that during this interaction, a woman reported feeling pressured to consume a “gummy” without knowledge of its contents. Following her distress signals, police found a firearm visible in his home.
The woman, due to her intoxication, required medical attention. While at the hospital, she shared text messages from Farthing, which raised concerns. Farthing reportedly texted her with statements like, “Why are you doing this to me?” suggesting an attempt to influence her, resulting in further charges.
Farthing’s past includes a hit-and-run incident in November 2025, leading to charges of leaving the scene and endangerment.
His initial win was followed by a tumultuous series of incidents, including an arrest in Florida the day after claiming his lottery prize, where he was accused of assaulting a deputy.
In a more recent court appearance, he faced misdemeanor charges related to that Florida incident, resulting in a brief jail sentence and subsequent fines.
A closer look at his legal troubles reveals that he is currently awaiting arraignment on two separate cases as of April, although details remain unclear.
As of now, neither the Scott County attorney nor the Fayette County Commonwealth’s attorney has commented on the latest developments.
