Megyn Kelly criticizes Jennifer Newsom for her statement about 'accidentally killing her sister'

Kelly Critiques Jennifer Siebel Newsom’s Comments

Megyn Kelly recently took aim at Jennifer Siebel Newsom, the wife of California’s governor, over some past comments regarding her sister’s tragic death and her views on women’s leadership.

During a Wednesday episode of SiriusXM’s “The Megyn Kelly Show,” Kelly questioned, “What’s going on with this crazy story, Jennifer Siebel Newsom?”

She pointed to remarks Siebel Newsom made in a documentary about childhood trauma.

“She subtly mentions that she accidentally killed her sister… I don’t think most people knew that,” Kelly remarked, expressing disbelief over the revelation.

Kelly found the situation shocking and described it as “record-setting.”

In a 2015 documentary called “The Mask You Live In,” Siebel Newsom shared her experience of losing her sister shortly before her seventh birthday, indicating she felt responsible.

Siebel Newsom drew parallels between her own childhood experience and the lives of incarcerated youth, stating, “They were ultimately accused of committing these violent crimes and sentenced to life in prison.”

She suggested that her background might resonate with those she interviewed, implying that, similar to her experience, some youths might also find themselves in unfortunate, accidental situations.

Kelly also expressed criticism of Siebel Newsom’s broader messages about crime and accountability.

“Did everyone in juvenile prison just get there by accident? … There is no accountability at all,” Kelly asserted.

This resurfacing of video clips has attracted significant attention recently, drawing focus back to a long-ago tragedy.

Kelly characterized the incident as “horrible and tragic,” placing some blame on the circumstances surrounding it.

“It’s frankly the parents’ fault for letting their 6-year-old get behind the wheel of a golf cart,” she stated, referencing the details of the accident in which Siebel Newsom’s sister died during a family vacation.

Siebel Newsom has described experiencing ongoing trauma and survivor’s guilt from that event.

In another excerpt, she argued that societal change would come “when women come together and partner with male allies,” positing that increased female participation might help combat issues like “online bigotry and hatred.”

Kelly, however, disputed this, pointing out that women have had influential roles in technology for years.

“Women have been in important roles in the tech industry since its inception,” Kelly said, citing well-known figures in the field.

She specifically mentioned Elizabeth Holmes, the founder of Theranos, currently serving time for fraud, suggesting that Siebel Newsom fails to recognize the historical contributions of women in tech.

The commentary has prompted inquiries to California Governor Gavin Newsom’s office, but no response has yet been received.
