Former Congressman George Santos Announces Plans to Become a Father

WASHINGTON — George Santos, a former Congressman from Long Island, has shared that he is preparing to become a father next year.

The 37-year-old revealed that he and his husband, Mateus “Matt” Gerald, have exciting plans for how they intend to raise their future children. “We’re having a baby next year and that’s a big deal for us,” Santos expressed on the “Citizen McCain” podcast. “We’re thrilled about all the preparations, making sure we have everything ready—like college funds and rainy day funds, all that kind of stuff.”

Santos previously mentioned his desire to have children, indicating he would be open to any way in which that might happen.

Although he didn’t specify when he would officially become a father or how many children he hopes to have, his excitement was clear.

He also spoke about concerns regarding summer camps for children. Santos recounted his own experiences at a summer day camp while growing up on Nantucket, but he expressed unease about overnight camps. “Unfortunately, as much as I trust the professionals hired to care for my children, my past experiences make me hesitant,” he shared, referencing a traumatic incident of being assaulted in a public school. “I wouldn’t want my children to face a similar situation, whether it be intentional or accidental.”

He mentioned that he might opt for private schools with better supervision instead. “I don’t want to homeschool my kids because I value social interaction. It’s tough, really tough,” Santos emphasized.

Santos has a tumultuous history, having served less than a year in Congress before being expelled due to allegations of identity theft and wire fraud. He later pled guilty to those charges and received an 87-month prison sentence, which was commuted by President Trump last fall.
