Eagles Boost Wide Receiver Group
The Philadelphia Eagles are making moves to strengthen their wide receiver lineup. They’ve acquired Dontaevion Wicks from the Green Bay Packers, giving up a 2026 fifth-round pick from the Falcons and their own sixth-rounder in 2027. This news, reported by Adam Schefter of ESPN, marks a significant addition for the Eagles.
Wicks, 24 years old, also comes with a one-year contract extension valued at $12.5 million, according to Schefter.
Being a fifth-round pick in 2023, Wicks played three seasons with the Packers. During that time, he caught 108 passes for 1,328 yards and scored 11 touchdowns. Last season, he recorded 30 catches for 332 yards and two touchdowns over 14 games.
This acquisition comes amidst ongoing speculation about A.J. Brown’s situation with the Eagles. Trade rumors about Brown suggest that any deal might happen after June 1, when the financial implications could be less burdensome for the team.
Eagles general manager Howie Roseman has sought to clarify Brown’s status, stating, “AJ Brown is a member of the Eagles. If you ask me about him, my answer won’t change.” This commitment underscores the team’s current focus on their receiving corps.
So far this offseason, the Eagles have actively brought in players, including free-agent receivers Hollywood Brown and Elijah Moore. The focus on enhancing their pass-catching options suggests a strategic intent to elevate their offense.
Meanwhile, Wicks’ departure marks a shift in the Packers’ wide receiver landscape, particularly after Romeo Doubs recently left Green Bay to sign a lucrative contract with the New England Patriots. Currently, the Packers are still well-stocked with talented receivers such as Christian Watson, Jaden Reed, and Matthew Golden.
