Couple ties the knot at City Hall and heads directly to Yankees Opening Day

Their wedding day turned into quite an adventure.

Two devoted Yankees fans chose not to let the Bronx Bombers’ season opener interrupt their special moment.

After Sean Dody and Monique Zabizadeh tied the knot on April 3, they hopped on the 4 train, still in their wedding gear, to catch the game against the Miami Marlins.

Zabizadeh, 31, shared, “We have a larger wedding coming up in June and wanted this little elopement first. We picked April 3rd because it marked one year since Sean proposed.” She added, “We were initially unsure about our plans after the ceremony, so it just made sense to spend the day at the stadium.”

With their City Hall appointment at 10:30 a.m., the couple, along with a photographer, managed to arrive at the game just in time for the 1:30 p.m. start.

As they traveled, some passengers congratulated them and even took photos, while others, Zabizadeh noted, “probably half the train cars saw us and just looked away.” She remarked, “It was amusing to see how little attention some people paid, even with a cameraman in tow, as they were more focused on reaching the game.”

The newlyweds, however, were not ready for the warm reception waiting for them at the stadium.

Zabizadeh recalled, “One woman spotted us, yelled, ‘Oh my god, you just got married?’ and before I knew it, a crowd formed, cheering for us.” As they entered the stadium, the congratulations kept coming.

Dody, 34, expressed joy at the public’s warm wishes, saying, “It felt amazing and I was really thankful that so many people were congratulating us.”

The bride, still in her heels, found them a seat while Dody, eager to take care of her, offered to get them food.

“I actually ate a hot dog in my wedding dress,” Zabizadeh said, laughing. “At that point, I thought, ‘I’m married now, so who cares if I get ketchup on my dress?'”

The couple, both practicing attorneys and former prosecutors in the Bronx, shared a unique bond. Dody remarked, “The moment I met her, I was taken aback. It was like falling head over heels—everyone joked about how smitten I was, but she didn’t seem to notice at first.”

Zabizadeh revealed that she finally revealed her feelings in March 2020, during a time when the courts were closed due to the pandemic. “We’ve been together ever since,” she said.

Dody humorously added, “It literally took the end of the world for me to gather the courage to say I loved her.”

Coming from a family of Yankee fans, including a grandmother who’s 89 and was thrilled to hear they spent their wedding day at the stadium, Dody said, “She thought it was the best thing ever.” He joked that she was such a big fan that he might consider having Aaron Judge as a grandson if it meant giving up a few of his other grandchildren.
