The Masters Tournament is set to make waves with its merchandise sales, anticipated to hit around $70 million during the 2026 event in Georgia. Reports indicate this amount, drawing significant attention across social media and the sports community.
According to sports business analyst Joe Pompliano, “The Masters will bring in roughly $70 million in merchandise sales this week.” He broke it down: that’s about $10 million a day, or equivalent to $1 million an hour. “Just picture it—$16,000 per minute, $277 per second… and that’s without online sales, all in just one week.” It’s a staggering number, even for an event of this stature.
Many were, understandably, astonished that the figure excluded online transactions. However, there’s something appealing about the exclusive in-person sales at Augusta National, which is the only place where merchandise can be purchased. Fans end up shelling out considerable amounts while soaking in the atmosphere of the game.
Items range from cozy $88 sweatshirts to collectible garden gnomes priced at about $50. People often leave with bags filled with items worth hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars. One woman, noticing demand, mentioned, “This item is extremely popular and rare,” as she sought out specific pieces for her friends.
Another shopper, overwhelmed by the selection, admitted, “When I walked into the store, I felt kind of swooning. Everything you were thinking about goes out the window.” One individual reportedly spent $3,500 on over 100 items, all intended for gifts.
Fans often view Masters merchandise as a “badge of honor,” and the popularity results in crowded shopping experiences. High-end products, like a new mahjong set priced at $575, are already appearing at much higher prices on resale sites, creating a bit of a frenzy.
Garden gnomes also stand out, with about 1,000 sold daily at nearly $60 each, often flying off the shelves shortly after they are stocked. One fan shared, “I tried so hard to get this year’s gnome. I got there early and waited in line for an hour, but the gnomes were gone by the time I reached the front.”
The merchandise figures align with earlier estimates; for example, Forbes had projected the Masters would generate around $69 million in 2022. Clearly, this level of consumer spending isn’t a recent phenomenon.
In contrast to the expensive merchandise, Augusta National maintains affordable food options. Price points for items like sandwiches range from $1.50 to $3. Fans have widely praised these costs online, calling them “unreal” compared to other sporting events. For instance, egg salad and pimento cheese sandwiches are just a couple of bucks, making it a rare spot where you can still enjoy a good meal without breaking the bank.
Overall, while fans may spend lavishly on merchandise, they can still appreciate the reasonably priced food during their visit to the tournament. Augusta National is indeed catering to both the frugal and the extravagant.
