Former Staffers Demand Eric Swalwell’s Resignation Amid Allegations

More than 50 former aides of Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) are calling for his resignation following serious allegations of sexual assault and misconduct.

An open letter described the claims as “serious” and “credible.” It highlighted a commitment to support colleagues who bravely came forward with their stories.

The San Francisco Chronicle and CNN reported on these serious accusations against Swalwell. The letter expressed solidarity with those who shared their experiences, emphasizing, “We stand with our colleagues who took extraordinary courage to share the truth.”

A former staffer accused Swalwell of sexual assault, asserting that their encounter, after a night of drinking, left her believing she lacked the mental ability to give consent. Additionally, three other women told CNN that Swalwell sent them unsolicited nude photos and explicit messages.

One passage from the letter read: “This is not a political attack. This is the testimony of a young woman who was targeted and exploited by her employer, someone in a position of power. This burden has been ongoing for years.” It further maintained that these allegations shouldn’t be brushed aside and that dismissing them as politically motivated doesn’t alter the reality of what happened.

Former staffers are insisting on a thorough investigation and believe that Swalwell should step down from both his gubernatorial race in California and his position in the Legislature.

In a message directed to their colleagues, they stated, “You are not alone. We see you. We support you.” They expressed regret for not having supported the victims earlier and acknowledged the weight of their experiences.

Meanwhile, the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office has announced it is looking into the allegations against Swalwell. The lawmaker has denied all claims against him.
