Sunny Hostin reveals that child care expenses can amount to $400,000 a year — Pat Gray reacts strongly

“The View” Sparks Controversy Over Children and Economy Debate

Once again, “The View” is making headlines, this time for some controversial remarks. During a discussion, Sunny Hostin labeled it “reckless” to suggest that people should have children given the current economic situation, responding to conservative activist Isabel Brown, who spoke at CPAC advocating for young women to embrace motherhood.

“I think it’s really reckless to suggest that people should have children at a time when we know there’s an affordability crisis in this country,” Hostin stated.

Pat Gray from Blaze TV reacted strongly, saying the comment was “outrageous.” He questioned, “Is it reckless to encourage people to have children? Are you kidding? Right now, we’re already below replacement levels… So do you ultimately want America to disappear?”

Hostin continued, emphasizing her point about child-rearing costs. “For a two-person household, child care costs more than $400,000. More than $400,000. Most people don’t make more than $400,000,” she said, critical of government trends that she believes exacerbate poverty and hinder family formation.

Co-host Ana Navarro asked for clarification, stating, “$400,000 for a child’s lifetime?” Hostin corrected her, asserting that it was, in fact, “over $400,000 a year.” Pat reacted with disbelief, exclaiming, “It doesn’t cost $400,000 a year to have a child!”

Visibly frustrated, he added, “They’re really stupid. It’s embarrassing. I’m embarrassed for them, and I can’t stand it.” He expressed shock that “The View” hadn’t addressed Hostin’s inflated figures and questioned if there should be a fact-checking process in place.

Pat wondered about the audience’s reaction: “How many people in the audience have children and understand the fact that it costs less than $400,000 a year to clothe, feed and house them?”

Other panelists chimed in, suggesting anyone with common sense would know that raising a child doesn’t require such an enormous cost.
