A barefoot burglar, suspected of a month-long series of crimes in a fashionable Virginia neighborhood, was taken into custody on Monday morning.
Cedric Walker, 21, was handcuffed early in Centerville, Virginia, linked to several attempted break-ins by naked individuals during March and early April.
Security cameras captured the alleged thief wandering properties wearing just shoes and a blue cloth mask. This surveillance effort occurred on April 1, after frustrated residents urged police for action, officials reported.
Fairfax Police officers set up a stakeout near a location known for such incidents, the reports indicated.
“You may not have spotted us from 3 a.m. to 6 a.m., but these detectives were out there in the cold, hiding in the bushes, waiting for the right moment,” remarked Maj. James Currie of Fairfax.
Before dawn on Monday, detectives noticed a naked man strolling past their position.
As he attempted to escape, police deployed a drone to track him through the neighborhood, according to the newspaper.
Eventually, the suspect leaped over a fence into a nearby yard and sought refuge inside. It was unclear if he lived there or was using someone else’s home to hide.
Determined, detectives utilized a drone to find him at his residence. They quickly secured a search warrant and apprehended Walker, who was inside.
Authorities stated that Walker, with no previous criminal record, was involved in a string of so-called “birthday suit” robberies.
Larilyn Andre, a local resident affected by Walker’s actions, shared that she and her neighborhood “erupted in cheers and applause” when he was taken into custody.
“I can’t praise our police department enough. Their persistence and intelligence were impressive,” Andre said.
Walker faces multiple charges, including robbery, attempted robbery, and indecent assault. He is currently being held without bail.
